So, you’ve made the decision to buy a fountain for your home or business. Congratulations! While buying online gives you a much larger selection than you could find in your local garden center and usually at a much better price, you may not have a very good idea of what size the fountain you want really is.

Some consumers see a fountain that they like online and don’t pay attention to the dimensions. Then when it’s delivered to their house, they may find it is way too big or too small. You don’t want this to happen to you.

The first step in buying a fountain is choosing the location where you want to put it. Be sure to evaluate all your options, so you don’t have any later regrets. Once you know your location, the rest of the process is much easier. With your space picked out, you can narrow down your fountain options to the select few that would look great in the space you’ve chosen.

Once you have decided on a fountain design and size (many of our fountains are available in multiple sizes), take down its measurements. Then find a cardboard box that roughly matches the fountain’s dimensions and set it in the place where you’re going to put the fountain. This will give you an idea of how much space it will take, as well as how it will fit into the room or yard. If a box wouldn’t work, you can also lay out the dimensions on the floor and/or wall with painter’s tape. Neither method is perfect, but either way should give you a better idea of how the fountain will fit in your space.

There is no rule of thumb for how your fountain should fit in your room. It’s entirely up to you. However, you probably don’t want the fountain to take over the room. It is usually meant to be an attractive addition, not the centerpiece. You want your fountain to be a pleasant feature for you and your guests, not a hazard. That being said, you also don’t want to get a fountain that is too small or it may just look silly. That is why it is so important to carefully note the dimensions and other considerations, like heating vents and electrical outlets when choosing your fountain and the location. You should also note the fountain’s weight, since some of our fountains can be quite heavy.

We have thousands of options in fountain types, styles and sizes – including floor fountains, wall fountains and outdoor fountains. We want to make sure that you don’t limit yourself by rushing into a purchase without exploring all your options. Take the time necessary to study your entire living space, measure it and decide what would look best where.
