Customizing Fountains Demystified
When many clients hear the words “custom fountains” they assume the “custom” part of the phrase wasn't directed at them, the customer. They assume that their ability to take part in the design of the product is severely limited. For example, think of how we can customize our cars at the dealership. We have choices about color, some materials, and such, but our ability to truly customize is limited by what the manufacturer has predetermined. With custom fountains, however, customers will be delighted to find that the flexibility and creativity are much more a part of the process.
Many fountains are made to order and, with that, offer opportunities to bring in your visions. Some fountains are pretty simple and don't offer much customization beyond color, logo, material, lighting, and a few more options (which is great!). Some types of fountains offer a seemingly endless variety of customization. This is most true for art fountains. Many artists in this genre will accept sketches or photos to influence the piece; they may review pictures of your home or landscaping to consider how the fountain can best fit, and they may make simple adjustments in materials, color or size, to your liking. You'll only know if you ask.
Which brings me to the importance of making sure the craftsmen and women have the experience in the field of custom fountains. Niches can be very specialized, so make sure you feel confident that they are up for the job (and can guarantee your satisfaction; after all, you are making a fairly big purchase).
A great example of customization comes from a real life example. Say you have a room in your house that has no windows, low ceilings, and is generally dark feeling. Working with an expert, a custom fountain could be created to bring both light and more of a feeling of space to the room. Lighting and the reflections off the flowing water can create a cooler but lively feeling to the room, and mirrors could add a more open feeling to the room. Almost like you added a window to brighten the dark space.
If you are more into artistic fountains, the sky's the limit.
