Home Foyer Decorating and Design Tips

When a guest first steps foot into your home, they’re immediately greeted with the foyer. It’s responsible for creating the first impression on guests, which can either be good or bad depending on how it’s set up. Leaving your foyer plain or cluttering it with an unnecessary amount of accessories can take away from your home’s natural beauty. However, designing it with attractive furnishings and accessories that compliment the surrounding atmosphere will benefit your home’s decor.

Incorporate Colors From Surrounding Decor

In most modern homes, the foyer is blended into the living room and/or dining room. This creates a more open floor plan that maximizes the available space for family members. When you’re decorating a foyer, consider the colors, elements and themes used in the conjoining rooms and areas. If your living room currently features black furniture, for instance, then you obviously wouldn’t want to decorate the foyer with brown furniture (brown and black clash, FYI).

You don’t necessarily have to use the exact same colors in your foyer that are used in the conjoining areas, but you should use colors that flow in a cohesive manner. If the color scheme clashes, you’ll need to choose something else.

Foyer Furnishings

So, what are some furnishing ideas to use in the foyer? There are several different ways to approach foyer design, but the easiest — and arguably most effective — is to create a small, elegant area that’s characterized by a luxurious side desk, desk lamp and some decorative accessories.

The desk and lamp combination goes a long way in creating an attractive home foyer. Upon entering your home, guests will immediately fixate their attention on this simple yet attractive setup, which is exactly what you should try to accomplish with a foyer. Just remember to choose a desk that matches the color and tone of surrounding furniture.

Accessorizing The Foyer

Now let’s talk about some of the different accessories to use in a foyer. While a traditional desk and lamp combination is oftentimes enough to create an attractive foyer, you can really make this area stand out with beauty by accessorizing it.

Try placing a small rug in the foyer to define the area. Of course, you can also hang a small water fountain on the wall to really improve the aesthetic value of your foyer. Rather than taking the traditional approach by hanging paintings or framed photos on the wall, install a water fountain here.
