Lake Ella Fountain

Think about the tranquility of an outdoor fountain. They can range in complexity, size and location, but all share that unique ability to draw our attention. Our town of Tallahassee, Florida has a beautiful fountain in the middle of historic Lake Ella – not too far from our burgeoning downtown. We love to go down there with family and friends and watch the wind play with the water. Our favorite feature is being able to enjoy the sound of water as it shoots up from the pond and comes falling down, splashing onto the water and calling us to appreciate it. This water fountain adds so much to the atmosphere of the park; it provides a focal point and adds texture to what would otherwise be a quiet, still pond. It’s beautiful from a distance too.

The Lake Ella Fountain adds depth and actually aerates the water of the lake so that the fish in the pond can survive better. Looks good and it’s functional! The fountain keeps algae and other unsightly aquatic growth down too, by having the water circulating on a consistent basis. And the ducks love to go swim and get a bath under the falling spray…another favorite feature of the fountain – home to all kinds of animals.

We spoke to an elderly lady the other day and she said her favorite thing about the whole park is the central fountain (there are actually three fountains at Lake Ella, but one clearly outshines the others). This same woman shared how the big fountain draws her in every day, on her regular walk. She loves to sit on the chair swings after her walk, watching the fountain, the people, and the ducks. “It calms me and is such a beautiful statement that we, as Tallahasseans, can be proud of.” Tallahassee is getting the idea, and is adding more and more water features in our community parks. It’s wonderful.

Lake Ella is a central location for many community events. It has a great walking path that is never empty, hosts farmers markets and music events, and is generally always full of life. This would not be so without the added touch of the fountain. This fountain is the defining feature of Lake Ella – it brings the park to life.
